At Ex Why Zed, we’re in the business of transforming stunning artworks into tangible printed creations. One of our proudest moments came when we had the privilege to print Rodney Matthews’ award-winning fantasy adventure, ‘Yendor’. This intricate project allowed us to showcase our expertise in fantasy story book printing, highlighting our commitment to quality, precision, and creative flair.
Rodney Matthews is a world-renowned illustrator and author whose vivid, dream-like creations have graced album covers, books, and TV screens for decades. His art, rooted in the realms of fantasy and sci-fi, has a unique, whimsical quality that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
Rodney’s latest creation, ‘Yendor: The Journey of a Junior Adventurer’, is a testament to his creative genius. This enchanting tale, aimed at junior adventurers and seasoned voyagers alike, features breathtaking illustrations brought to life by our advanced printing techniques.
‘Yendor’ was brought to life as a 240x240mm case bound book, printed on our Heidelberg litho press. The cover, a vivid representation of Rodney’s artwork, was printed onto 170gsm Silk, then wrapped over a sturdy greyboard case. A matt lamination was applied to the outer cover, followed by a gloss spot UV varnish, adding a touch of intrigue and highlighting the artwork’s exquisite details.
The book comprises 32 pages printed onto 170gsm Silk in four colours, providing a high-quality feel and ensuring each illustration’s vibrancy was perfectly captured. The pages were meticulously trimmed, collated, and case bound to create a finished product befitting Rodney’s inspiring work.
A distinguishing feature of this printing project was the set of end papers. Two sets of 4-page end papers were printed onto 170gsm Uncoated paper, offering a stark contrast to the glossy, colourful pages of the book. These uncoated sheets served as a fitting introduction and conclusion to the fantastical journey contained within the book.
The world of Yendor is a visually stunning one, with each page featuring Rodney’s distinctive illustrations. From intricately designed creatures to lush, alien landscapes, each detail was meticulously replicated during the printing process. We utilised the full capabilities of our Heidelberg litho press, ensuring that each hue and stroke was perfectly rendered.
To fully appreciate the captivating world of Yendor and the precision with which we handled its printing, we invite you to explore the Rodney Matthews Studios website or to watch this video.
Our experience in printing ‘Yendor’ reinforced our position as specialists in fantasy story book printing. With an unyielding commitment to quality, we go above and beyond to ensure that every project we undertake is completed to the highest standards.
