Print Case Study: Ephemera Magazine Issue 7/8

As experts in fashion magazine printing, ExWhyZed brings together creative design and high-quality print craftsmanship. One such example of our work is the “Ephemera Magazine Issue 7/8”, an intricate blend of fashion, art, and culture. In this case study, we share insights into the creation of this visually stunning and intellectually stimulating publication.

The Concept

Ephemera Magazine is a unique biannual print publication that merges high fashion, innovative art, and thought-provoking essays. Its unique take on fashion storytelling and visually rich content provided us with an exciting challenge. We aimed to capture the essence of the magazine while ensuring the final printed product did justice to its eclectic content.

The 190x127mm book was created with a 4-page cover onto 300gsm Gloss, enhanced with a Gloss Lamination to enrich the visual appeal. The interior was printed on 116 pages of 150gsm Uncoated paper to contrast the glossy cover, giving the pages a natural feel. We utilised a four-colour print throughout to ensure all art pieces and photographs were reproduced accurately and vibrantly.

The books were printed on our state-of-the-art HP digital press and then trimmed, collated, and perfect bound. Perfect binding was chosen for its ability to provide a professional finish that is both durable and visually pleasing. For those interested in this binding method, our guide on perfect binding set-up is an invaluable resource.

Ex Why Zed makes self publishing a truly pleasurable experience!
Brilliant communication from start to finish. Mike had endless patience for the many questions we asked. The guides provided were easy to follow and super helpful (the video guides are a must watch too). Our order of hardback illustrated children's books was delivered expertly packaged and on time. As for the finished product itself - stunning - a real joy to finally hold, beautifully made and perfectly printed! We couldn't have asked for more. Well, we did - we instantly placed an order for paperback children's colouring books too, which we are equally as happy with. Look forward to working with Ex Why Zed again in the future.
