Finland: The Happiness Project.
@map6collective is a collective of ten photographers who collaborate to learn, experiment and make new work about the complex relationships between people and place. Annually Map6 travels somewhere, to create a collective photographic impression of that location.
Silk inside pages are smooth and give great colour reproduction. The images are inspiring and genuinely make you think “yep, this looks like a place I should really be moving, it DOES look happy!”.
A solid mix of landscape, architectural and portrait photography guides the reader through 128 pages.
Hiding away are unexpected fold out flaps from both front and back covers which give scope for a super wide spread to start and finish the book. Test sheets were produced before the final print run and the choice of a silk finish for the cover and inside pages ensured that the photographic images jumped off the page in colourful glory.
Although Finland is affluent, the United Nations says it’s not money alone that makes a country happy but six key factors: personal income, social support, life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and levels of corruption. Finland scores well on all of these but particularly so on generosity; the nation’s social safety net combined with personal freedom and a good work–life balance gives it the edge.
