Norwich University of the Arts (NUA) has a rich history of nurturing creative talent, and its BA (Hons) Photography course is no exception. The course is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in the diverse world of contemporary photography. The Photography Studio at NUA provides students with a professional environment to explore and develop their creative ideas.
The culmination of the students’ hard work and creativity is showcased in the annual degree show. In 2015, the Photography Degree Show was a testament to the talent and creativity of the students. The show was a visual feast, with each student presenting a unique perspective on the world through their lens. The show was not just an exhibition, but a celebration of the students’ journey through the course.
To commemorate this event, a Degree Show Catalogue was created. This catalogue was not just a collection of images, but a tangible representation of the students’ creative journey. The catalogue was printed by Ex Why Zed, a company renowned for their high-quality Degree Show Catalogue printing.
The catalogue was printed as an A5 book, a size that is both practical and aesthetically pleasing. The cover was printed on 300gsm Silk, with a Matt Lamination to the outer, giving it a professional and sleek finish. The 84 pages of text were printed on 150gsm Silk, ensuring high-quality image reproduction and a pleasant tactile experience for the reader. The catalogue was printed in full colour throughout, allowing the vibrant and diverse range of photographs to be showcased in all their glory. The pages were then trimmed, collated, and perfect bound, resulting in a beautifully finished product.
One of the standout features of the catalogue was its cover. The expansive white background with grey geometric accents created an eye-catching appeal that was hard to ignore. This ultra-minimalist design barely hinted at the wealth of creativity contained within the pages of the catalogue, adding an element of surprise and anticipation for the reader.
Inside the catalogue, each student was given a double-page spread. This generous space allowed them to showcase their favourite photographic image and provide an accompanying narrative. This layout not only highlighted the students’ photographic skills but also their ability to tell a story through their images.
The choice of A5 for the catalogue proved to be a cost-effective solution. Not only was it economical to print at Ex Why Zed, but it was also easy for show visitors to take away with them. This ensured that the students’ work reached a wider audience, increasing their exposure and potential for future opportunities.
