Always judge a book by its cover!

We can add a number of premium finishes to the cover of your brochure to really make it stand out. Foiling creates a shiny metallic effect. Gloss Spot UV varnishing is the process of picking out some text, a logo or some lettering and making it shine. Embossing some text or an area adds a tactile dimension as it comes forward off the page and advances towards the reader.  Debossing is the inverse of embossing and the content goes away from the reader and into the cover.

STYLE YOUR WINNING COVER

Printing winning property brochures

We have been doing this a while now and have seen a lot of impressive publications come off our presses.  To give you a head start with your brochure printing, here are three print specifications which work well (and photos of them, see right).  Each has its own characteristics which have proven to be winning combinations from a production perspective, cost per unit and most importantly, have reader appeal.
If any of our showcase options would work for your project, take a note of the spec and jump on our quote form to receive your bespoke quotation. Or ping us an email on hello@exwhyzed.fixed-staging.co.uk if that is easier.

• Increase the cover to 350gsm for a super thick solution.
• Choose matt lamination for a flat finish or gloss lamination for a shiny aesthetic.
• A5 will be a compact, handy size, A4 is a more visually imposing option.
• 130gsm is a standard paper weight for inside pages so 170gsm is a premium upgrade.

STILL HAVE QUESTIONS?

All the answers for your brochure print questions

We have done our best to give you a huge wealth of information on this page and in our guides but if here are some frequently asked questions to help you get your work into print.

View all our FAQ's
Where are you based?

We are in England’s oldest town, Colchester.

What is cover lamination?

Lamination is a thin layer of protection which prevents the ink cracking. Win win. It comes in matt, gloss, soft-touch or anti-scuff.

Matt Lamination works best with silk and uncoated covers. We would suggest using gloss lamination if you are aiming for a super shiny, high impact cover. Soft-touch has a velvet, illustrious feel but does attract finger marks REALLY quickly so best not eat your lunch before reading!

Do I need lamination on my cover?

This video guide gives you a great showcase. The short answer: when paper is printed, the ink sits on the surface. When it is then folded to make your cover the ink can crack. While you should never judge a book by it’s cover, this cracking will look unprofessional. Lamination is a thin layer of protection which prevents the ink cracking. Win win. It comes in matt, gloss, soft-touch or anti-scuff.

How do I place my order?

We have a smooth, no fuss ordering system. Use wetransfer.com to send us the print ready PDF and our eagle eyed pre-press team will give it a preflight check. You will then receive a final PDF proof to check on screen and once that is approved we’ll go to print. Easy!

How do I need to supply my artwork?

We will need a high res pdf please.

For a wire stitched brochures we need one file with all the pages in reading order.

For perfect bound brochures we need a file for the outer and inner cover spreads then a second file for the inside pages.

If you are adding any premium extras to the cover then we need a file for that too. Anything that you would like foiled, varnishing or embossed should be set in 100% black (0/0/0/100 on the cmyk slider). This file should be the same size as the printed cover artwork so that we can overlay the two. These processes only work with vector artwork so best to produce that in Illustrator for optimum results.

When you export to PDF we need crop marks and 3mm bleed on each edge. The following page includes illustrated and video guides on how to set up bleed correctly:

https://www.exwhyzed.fixed-staging.co.uk/resources/setting-3mm-bleed-on-artwork-for-print/

Quality. Price. Turnaround.

The old print industry maxim is that it is possible to have two of these when you send a job to print. Stop Press! At Ex Why Zed we have changed the rulebook and are confident we can now offer all three! The highest quality printing, for the best prices and delivered when you need it.

What sizes can you print?

For cost-effective sizes keep your catalogue within A4 portrait, A5 landscape or 210x210mm square – these are the cheapest sizes to print but do choose the size that best fits your publication. The largest portrait size we can print is an mightily impressive A3 that would really create a wow factor when you handed it to a prospective buyer, developer or broker. A3 is 420mm high x 297mm wide.  Our maximum square size is 297x297mm.  The maximum landscape size is 210mm high x 297mm wide.

How long does it take?

We can deliver a standard print spec in 4/5 working days. If you are going for a longer print run of 700 copies+ or are including bespoke options then allow a good 2-3 weeks depending on how lavish your specification is.

What is wire stitching?

Wire stitching is a little bit of print jargon for ‘stapling’. If you have an A5 booklet then we print it onto A4 sheets, fold them in and put staples along the left-hand edge to bind the sheet together. In some quarters, this is also known as ‘saddle stitching’. Let’s stick with stapling though if that’s easier 🙂

Needs to be a multiple of four pages to work as a stapled booklet. Why? Because when you fold a printed sheet in half, you get four pages of content – try it there and you’ll see what we mean 🙂

What is perfect binding?

The perfect bound method of binding will give your publication a square spine and professional looking finish.

For further advice follow our perfect binding set up guides.

Why do you call it ‘text’ pages? Can I have images?

Yes, ‘text’ pages is our common term for the inside pages of your publication. They can be filled with illustrations, photography, full colour artwork…or just text if it’s a contract, legal document or set of particulars.

What is a page?

For the purposes of our quoting, we call a page one side of content.  So, a sheet of paper has two pages – a front and a back.  If you ask for a quote for 40 inside pages, that will be 40 pages of content, 40 pages in your artwork file / pdf and in the book 20 leaves printed on both sides.
